Listen Shortcode WordPress Plugin Stored Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability

Vulnerability

A stored cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in the Listen Shortcode plugin for WordPress, affecting versions through 1.0. The issue arises from inadequate input sanitization and output escaping of user-supplied attributes in the 'listen' shortcode. Specifically, the 'src', 'start', and 'end' attributes are processed in the listenEmbedJS() function and echoed within a single-quoted HTML attribute without proper escaping. This flaw allows authenticated attackers with contributor-level access or higher to inject arbitrary web scripts into pages, which are executed when users access the compromised page.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for stored cross-site scripting, where injected scripts are executed in the context of the user viewing the page.

Remediation

There is no known patch available for this vulnerability. Users are advised to review the vulnerability details and consider uninstalling the affected plugin.
