Timeline Blocks for Gutenberg Stored Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability

Vulnerability

A stored cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in the Timeline Blocks for Gutenberg plugin for WordPress. This issue affects all versions through 1.1.10. The vulnerability arises from inadequate input sanitization and output escaping on user-supplied attributes, particularly the 'titleTag' attribute of the 'timeline-blocks/tb-timeline-blocks' block. As a result, authenticated attackers with contributor-level access or higher can inject arbitrary web scripts into pages, which are executed when users access the affected page.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for stored cross-site scripting, where injected scripts are executed in the context of the user viewing the page.

Reproduction

To reproduce this vulnerability, an authenticated user with contributor-level access or higher can add a 'timeline-blocks/tb-timeline-blocks' block to a post or page. By injecting a script into the 'titleTag' attribute, the script will be executed when the page is viewed.

Remediation

Users are advised to update the Timeline Blocks for Gutenberg plugin to version 1.1.11 or a newer patched version.
