Total WordPress Theme Stored Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability

A stored cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in the Total theme for WordPress, affecting versions through 2.2.1. The issue arises from inadequate output escaping when the post title is rendered within HTML attributes in the home blog section template. This vulnerability allows authenticated attackers with contributor-level access or higher to inject arbitrary scripts into posts, which are executed when users view the affected pages. Exploitation requires the malicious post to be published and displayed with a featured image in the Home Page blog section.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for stored cross-site scripting, where injected scripts are executed in the context of the user viewing the page.

Remediation

Users can update to version 2.2.2 or a newer patched version to address this vulnerability.
