Open ISES Tickets Reflected Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability

Vulnerability

A reflected cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in Open ISES Tickets versions prior to 3.44.2. The issue resides in the 'os_watch.php' file, where authenticated attackers can inject arbitrary JavaScript. This is achieved by sending an unsanitized value through the 'ref' and 'mode_orig' POST parameters, which is then directly inserted into the HTML as hidden input values. When the response is rendered in the victim's browser, the injected JavaScript executes.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for reflected cross-site scripting, where an attacker can inject and execute malicious scripts in the context of the user's browser session.

Reproduction

To reproduce this vulnerability, send a POST request to 'os_watch.php' with the 'ref' and 'mode_orig' parameters. Include a JavaScript payload in these parameters. The injected script will execute when the response is viewed in a browser.

Remediation

Users are advised to upgrade to Open ISES Tickets version 3.44.2 or later, where this vulnerability has been patched.
