Loco Translate Reflected Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability

Vulnerability

A reflected cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in the Loco Translate plugin for WordPress, affecting all versions through 2.8.2. The issue arises from inadequate input sanitization and output escaping, allowing unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts. These scripts could be executed if a user is tricked into clicking a link that contains the malicious payload.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for reflected cross-site scripting, where an attacker can inject scripts that are executed in the context of the user's browser.

Reproduction

To reproduce this vulnerability, send a request to a page that uses the Loco Translate plugin, including the 'update_href' parameter with a crafted link that contains the script to be executed. If the target user clicks the link, the injected script will run in their browser.

Remediation

Users are advised to update the Loco Translate plugin to version 2.8.3 or later.
