BWL Advanced FAQ Manager Lite WordPress Plugin Stored Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability
Vulnerability
A stored cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in the BWL Advanced FAQ Manager Lite plugin for WordPress, affecting all versions up to and including 1.1.1. The vulnerability arises from inadequate input sanitization and output escaping of user-supplied shortcode attributes in the 'baf_sbox' shortcode. Authenticated attackers with Contributor-level access or higher can exploit this issue to inject arbitrary web scripts into pages, which are executed when users access the affected pages.
Impact
Exploitation of this vulnerability allows authenticated users with Contributor-level access and above to inject and execute malicious scripts on behalf of the user, potentially leading to session hijacking or other malicious actions.
Reproduction
To reproduce this vulnerability, an authenticated user with Contributor-level access or higher can use the 'baf_sbox' shortcode and include unsanitized attributes such as 'sbox_id', 'sbox_class', 'placeholder', 'highlight_color', 'highlight_bg', and 'cont_ext_class'. The injected script will be executed when the page is accessed.
Remediation
Users are advised to update the BWL Advanced FAQ Manager Lite plugin to version 1.1.2 or later, where this vulnerability has been addressed.
