Quran Live Multilanguage WordPress Plugin Stored Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability

Vulnerability

A stored cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in the Quran Live Multilanguage plugin for WordPress, affecting all versions through 1.0.3. The issue arises from inadequate input sanitization and output escaping of user-supplied shortcode attributes, specifically 'cheikh' and 'lang'. The vulnerability allows authenticated users with Contributor-level access and above to inject arbitrary scripts into pages, which are executed when a user accesses the injected page.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for stored cross-site scripting, where injected scripts are executed in the context of the user viewing the page.

Reproduction

To reproduce this vulnerability, an authenticated user with Contributor-level access or higher can add a shortcode with the 'cheikh' and 'lang' attributes. The plugin will process these attributes without proper sanitization, allowing the user to inject script code. Once the shortcode is rendered, the injected script will execute immediately.

Remediation

No known patch is available. It is recommended to uninstall the affected plugin and find a replacement.
