Modular Connector WordPress Plugin Cross-Site Request Forgery Vulnerability

Vulnerability

A Cross-Site Request Forgery (CSRF) vulnerability has been identified in the Modular DS: Monitor, update, and backup multiple websites plugin for WordPress, affecting all versions through 2.5.1. The vulnerability arises from a lack of nonce validation in the postConfirmOauth() function, allowing unauthenticated attackers to disconnect the plugin's OAuth/SSO connection by sending a forged request, provided they can deceive a site administrator into clicking a link.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for Cross-Site Request Forgery, where an attacker can impersonate a user and perform actions on their behalf without their consent, specifically disconnecting OAuth/SSO connections.

Reproduction

To reproduce this vulnerability, an attacker must send a request to the postConfirmOauth() function without a valid nonce. This can be done by tricking a site administrator into clicking a link that leads to the vulnerable function, effectively bypassing the missing nonce validation.

Remediation

Users are advised to update the Modular Connector WordPress plugin to version 2.6.0 or later, where this vulnerability has been patched.
