Columns by BestWebSoft WordPress Plugin Stored Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability
Vulnerability
A stored cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in the Columns by BestWebSoft plugin for WordPress, affecting all versions through 1.0.3. The issue arises from inadequate input sanitization and output escaping for the 'id' attribute of the [print_clmns] shortcode. This vulnerability allows authenticated attackers with Contributor-level access or higher to inject arbitrary scripts into pages, which are executed when users access the affected pages. Exploitation requires that at least one column, created by an admin, exists within the plugin.
Impact
Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for stored cross-site scripting, where injected scripts are executed in the context of the user viewing the page.
Reproduction
To reproduce this vulnerability, an authenticated user with Contributor-level access or higher can add a column using the Columns by BestWebSoft plugin. Once a column is created, the user can inject a script through the 'id' attribute of the [print_clmns] shortcode. After saving the changes, the injected script will execute when the page is viewed.
Remediation
No known patch is available. It is recommended to uninstall the affected plugin and find a replacement.
