Investi WordPress Plugin Stored Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability

Vulnerability

A stored cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in the Investi plugin for WordPress, affecting all versions through 1.0.26. The issue arises in the 'investi-announcements-accordion' shortcode, specifically through the 'maximum-num-years' attribute. The vulnerability is due to inadequate input sanitization and output escaping of user-supplied shortcode attributes. As a result, authenticated attackers with Contributor-level access or higher can inject arbitrary web scripts into pages, which will execute when a user accesses the compromised page.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for stored cross-site scripting, where injected scripts are executed in the context of the user viewing the page.

Reproduction

To reproduce this vulnerability, an authenticated user with Contributor-level access or higher can use the 'investi-announcements-accordion' shortcode and include a crafted 'maximum-num-years' attribute. The absence of proper escaping will allow the injection of malicious scripts, which will be executed when the page is viewed.

Remediation

Users are advised to update the Investi WordPress plugin to version 1.0.27 or later, where this vulnerability has been patched.
