TableOn WordPress Plugin Stored Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability
Vulnerability
A stored cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in the TableOn WordPress Posts Table Filterable plugin, affecting all versions through 1.0.4.4. The vulnerability arises from inadequate input sanitization and output escaping of user-supplied shortcode attributes, including 'class', 'help_link', 'popup_title', and 'help_title'. This flaw allows authenticated attackers with Contributor-level access or higher to inject arbitrary scripts into pages, which are executed when users access the affected page.
Impact
Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for stored cross-site scripting, where injected scripts are executed in the context of the user viewing the page.
Reproduction
To reproduce this vulnerability, an authenticated user with Contributor-level access or higher can use the 'tableon_button' shortcode. The shortcode can be customized with the vulnerable attributes, such as 'class', 'help_link', 'popup_title', and 'help_title', without proper sanitization. Once the shortcode is executed, the injected script will be executed when the page is accessed.
Remediation
Users are advised to update the TableOn WordPress Posts Table Filterable plugin to version 1.0.5 or later.
