Open ISES Tickets Reflected Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability

Vulnerability

A reflected cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in Open ISES Tickets versions prior to 3.44.2. The issue resides in the 'do_unit_mail.php' file, where authenticated attackers can inject arbitrary JavaScript. This is achieved by sending an unsanitized value through the 'the_ticket' GET parameter, which is then directly assigned to a JavaScript variable. When the crafted URL is accessed, the injected JavaScript executes in the context of the victim's browser.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for reflected cross-site scripting, where an attacker can inject malicious scripts that are executed in the context of the user's browser.

Reproduction

To reproduce this vulnerability, an authenticated user can send a request to 'do_unit_mail.php' with a crafted 'the_ticket' GET parameter. The parameter should include a JavaScript payload, such as one that creates an alert box. When the URL is visited, the injected script will execute in the browser.

Remediation

Users are advised to upgrade to Open ISES Tickets version 3.44.2 or later, where this vulnerability has been patched.
