Name Directory WordPress Plugin Stored Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability

Vulnerability

A stored cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in the Name Directory plugin for WordPress, affecting all versions through 1.32.1. The issue arises from inadequate input sanitization and output escaping, allowing unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts via the 'name_directory_name' parameter. These scripts are executed when users access the affected pages. While the vulnerability was partially addressed in versions 1.30.3 and 1.32.1, it remains a concern in earlier releases.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for stored cross-site scripting, where injected scripts are executed in the context of the user viewing the page.

Reproduction

To reproduce this vulnerability, upload the Name Directory WordPress plugin version 1.32.1 or earlier. Once the plugin is active, navigate to the directory management section. Create a new directory and inject a script into the 'name_directory_name' field. After saving, the injected script will execute when the directory page is accessed.

Remediation

Users are advised to update the Name Directory WordPress plugin to version 1.33.0 or later.
