A stored cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in the WP Meteor Website Speed Optimization Addon for WordPress, affecting all versions through 3.4.16. The issue arises from inadequate input sanitization and output escaping in the 'frontend_rewrite' function, specifically within the 'WPMETEOR[N]WPMETEOR' placeholder content. This vulnerability allows unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts into pages, which are executed when users access the compromised pages.
Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for stored cross-site scripting, where injected scripts are executed in the context of the user viewing the page.
To reproduce this vulnerability, an unauthenticated user can inject a script into a page using the 'WPMETEOR[N]WPMETEOR' placeholder. Once the script is injected, it will execute whenever a user accesses the affected page.
Users are advised to update the WP Meteor Website Speed Optimization Addon to version 3.4.17 or a newer patched version.
