ThemeREX Gamezone Local File Inclusion Vulnerability

A local file inclusion vulnerability has been identified in the ThemeREX Gamezone WordPress theme, specifically in versions through 1.1.11. This vulnerability arises from improper control of filenames in include or require statements, allowing for PHP remote file inclusion, which could be exploited to include local files from the target website and display their contents.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to local files on the server, including sensitive information such as database credentials, which could allow for a complete takeover of the database, depending on the configuration.

Remediation

Users are advised to update to a version of the ThemeREX Gamezone WordPress theme that is later than 1.1.11. Patchstack has also issued a mitigation rule to block attacks targeting this vulnerability until an official patch can be safely applied.
