Linux Kernel AMDGPU User Queue Warning Suppression Vulnerability

Vulnerability

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's AMDGPU driver allows userspace to unintentionally trigger kernel warnings. This occurs when userspace sends a number of fences that is too small, or when the required number of fences increases between two calls to the user queue wait ioctl. In both scenarios, the kernel warning backtrace is unnecessary, as userspace will receive an error code. The vulnerability has been addressed by removing the warning triggers.

Impact

The vulnerability could lead to unnecessary kernel warnings, which may disrupt system logging and obscure genuine issues.

Remediation

Users can upgrade to the latest version of the Linux kernel where this vulnerability has been fixed. Instructions for downloading the patched version are available on the Linux kernel official website.
