Movable Type Stored Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability in Export Sites

Vulnerability

A stored cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in the Export Sites feature of Movable Type. This vulnerability allows an attacker to inject crafted input that, when accessed by a logged-in user, executes arbitrary scripts in the user's web browser. Affected versions include Movable Type 9.0.4 to 9.0.5, 8.8.0 to 8.8.1, and 8.0.2 to 8.0.8. Additionally, Movable Type 7 series and 8.4 series, which are End-of-Life, are also affected.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for stored cross-site scripting, where injected scripts are executed in the context of the user viewing the affected feature.

Remediation

Users are advised to update to Movable Type 9.0.6, 8.8.2, or 8.0.9. For Movable Type Premium users, version 9.1.0 or 2.14 is recommended. Instructions for updating are available on the Six Apart user site or through the Movable Type documentation.
