Ravelry Designs Widget Stored Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability

Vulnerability

A stored cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in the Ravelry Designs Widget plugin for WordPress, affecting all versions through 1.0.0. The issue arises from inadequate input sanitization and output escaping for user-supplied attributes, particularly the 'layout' attribute of the 'sb_ravelry_designs' shortcode. This vulnerability allows authenticated attackers with contributor-level access or higher to inject arbitrary web scripts into pages, which are executed when users access the affected pages.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for stored cross-site scripting, where injected scripts are executed in the context of the user viewing the page.

Reproduction

To reproduce this vulnerability, an authenticated user with contributor-level access or higher can use the 'sb_ravelry_designs' shortcode and include a malicious script in the 'layout' attribute. Once the shortcode is saved, the injected script will execute whenever the page is accessed.

Remediation

No known patch is available. It is recommended to uninstall the affected plugin and find a replacement.
