WordPress Super Page Cache Stored Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability

Vulnerability

A stored cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in the Super Page Cache plugin for WordPress, affecting all versions through 5.2.2. The issue arises from inadequate input sanitization and output escaping in the Activity Log, allowing unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary scripts. These scripts are executed when users access the compromised pages.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for stored cross-site scripting, where injected scripts are executed in the context of the user viewing the affected page.

Reproduction

To reproduce this vulnerability, an unauthenticated user can inject a script into the Activity Log of a WordPress site using the Super Page Cache plugin version 5.2.2 or earlier. Once the script is injected, it will be executed whenever a user accesses the page where the script was injected.

Remediation

Users are advised to update the Super Page Cache plugin to version 5.2.3 or later.
