Hostel WordPress Plugin Reflected Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability

Vulnerability

A reflected cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in the Hostel plugin for WordPress, affecting all versions through 1.1.6. The issue arises from inadequate input sanitization and output escaping, allowing unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts via the 'shortcode_id' parameter. These scripts could be executed if a user is tricked into clicking a link.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for reflected cross-site scripting, where an attacker can inject malicious scripts that are executed in the context of the user's browser.

Reproduction

To reproduce this vulnerability, send a request to a page that uses the Hostel plugin with the 'shortcode_id' parameter. The request can be made via a link that the user is likely to click, which will trigger the execution of the injected script.

Remediation

Users are advised to update the Hostel WordPress plugin to version 1.1.7 or later.
