Customer Reviews for WooCommerce Stored Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability

Vulnerability

A stored cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in the Customer Reviews for WooCommerce plugin for WordPress, affecting all versions through 5.97.0. The issue arises from inadequate input sanitization and output escaping, allowing unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts. This vulnerability is particularly concerning when the 'Enable for Guests' option is activated, as the injected scripts will execute when users access the affected pages.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for stored cross-site scripting, where injected scripts are executed in the context of the user viewing the page.

Reproduction

The vulnerability can be reproduced by uploading a media file through the review form, which is then processed by the 'class-cr-reviews' endpoint. The 'media[].href' parameter can be manipulated to include malicious scripts, which are executed when the review is viewed.

Remediation

Users are advised to update the plugin to version 5.98.0 or later.
