WP Hello Bar Stored Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability

Vulnerability

A stored cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in the WP Hello Bar plugin for WordPress, affecting all versions through 1.02. The issue arises from inadequate input sanitization and output escaping, allowing authenticated attackers with administrator-level access to inject arbitrary web scripts. These scripts are executed when users access the compromised pages.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for stored cross-site scripting, where injected scripts are executed in the context of the user viewing the page.

Reproduction

To reproduce this vulnerability, an authenticated user with administrator privileges can inject scripts through the 'digit_one' and 'digit_two' parameters in the plugin's settings. Once the scripts are saved, they will execute whenever a user accesses a page that includes the injected content.

Remediation

There is no known patch available for this vulnerability. Users are advised to uninstall the WP Hello Bar plugin and consider finding a replacement.
