Android Framework and System Elevation of Privilege Vulnerability

Vulnerability

A logic error in the Android Framework's ActivityRecord.java file can cause a background application launch, leading to a local elevation of privilege. This vulnerability does not require any additional execution privileges or user interaction to exploit. It affects devices running Android versions 14, 15, and 16, with the exception of those on the 16-qpr2 patch level.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability could result in unauthorized access to elevated privileges, allowing a user to perform actions or access resources that are normally restricted.

Remediation

Users can update their devices to the June 2026 security patch level to address this vulnerability. For devices on Android 10 and later, this update may be available through the Google Play system update.
