TablePress Stored Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability for WordPress

Vulnerability

A stored cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in the TablePress plugin for WordPress, affecting all versions through 3.2. This vulnerability arises from inadequate input sanitization and output escaping, allowing authenticated attackers with Contributor-level access or higher to inject arbitrary scripts. These scripts are executed when a user accesses the affected page.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for stored cross-site scripting, where injected scripts are executed in the context of the user viewing the page.

Reproduction

To reproduce this vulnerability, an authenticated user with Contributor-level access or higher can inject scripts via the 'shortcode_debug' parameter. This can be done by creating or editing a table and adding a script in a way that it is not properly sanitized or escaped. Once the table is saved, the injected script will execute when the table is viewed.

Remediation

Users are advised to update the TablePress plugin to version 3.2.1 or later, where this vulnerability has been patched.
