Quiz and Survey Master SQL Injection Vulnerability in WordPress Plugin

Vulnerability

A time-based SQL injection vulnerability has been identified in the Quiz and Survey Master (QSM) WordPress plugin, specifically in versions through 10.3.1. The vulnerability arises from inadequate escaping of user-supplied data in the 'is_linking' parameter, allowing authenticated attackers with Subscriber-level access or higher to inject additional SQL queries. This exploitation could lead to the unauthorized extraction of sensitive information from the database.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for time-based SQL injection, where an attacker can manipulate SQL queries to extract sensitive data from the database.

Reproduction

To reproduce this vulnerability, an authenticated user with Subscriber-level access or higher can send a request to the WordPress REST API with the 'is_linking' parameter. The lack of proper input sanitization allows for the injection of malicious SQL that could be executed by the database, potentially leading to the extraction of confidential information.

Remediation

Users are advised to update the Quiz and Survey Master plugin to version 10.3.2 or a newer patched version.
