SiteSEO SEO Simplified Stored Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability

A stored cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in the SiteSEO – SEO Simplified plugin for WordPress, affecting all versions through 1.2.7. The issue arises from a flawed regular expression in the preg_replace function, which allows authenticated attackers with Contributor-level access or higher to inject arbitrary scripts. These scripts are executed when a user views the affected page.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for stored cross-site scripting, where injected scripts are executed in the context of the user viewing the page.

Remediation

Users are advised to update the SiteSEO – SEO Simplified plugin to version 1.2.8 or a newer patched version.
