Surbowl Dormitory-Management-PHP SQL Injection Vulnerability in Login.PHP
Vulnerability
A SQL injection vulnerability has been identified in Surbowl's dormitory-management-php version 1.0, specifically within the login.php file. The issue arises from inadequate validation of the 'account' parameter, allowing attackers to inject malicious SQL queries. This vulnerability can be exploited remotely, without any authentication, and affects a product that is no longer supported by the maintainer.
Impact
Exploitation of this vulnerability allows unauthorized database access, manipulation of SQL queries, and execution of arbitrary SQL commands. This could lead to unauthorized data access, data modification or deletion, and potentially allow attackers to gain control over the application or its underlying server.
Reproduction
The vulnerability can be reproduced by sending a POST request to 'login.php' with a crafted 'account' parameter that includes malicious SQL payloads. This can be done using tools like sqlmap, which automates the process of finding and exploiting SQL injection vulnerabilities.
Remediation
It is recommended to use prepared statements and parameter binding to prevent SQL injection, validate and filter user input, minimize database user permissions, and conduct regular security audits.
