WP Project Manager SQL Injection Vulnerability in WordPress

Vulnerability

A time-based SQL injection vulnerability has been identified in the WP Project Manager plugin for WordPress, affecting all versions through 2.6.26. The vulnerability arises from inadequate escaping of user-supplied data in the 'completed_at_operator' parameter, allowing authenticated attackers with Subscriber-level access or higher to inject additional SQL queries. This exploitation could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive information in the database.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for time-based SQL injection, where an attacker can manipulate SQL queries to extract sensitive data from the database.

Reproduction

To reproduce this vulnerability, send a request to the WP Project Manager plugin's REST API endpoint for retrieving tasks. Include the 'completed_at_operator' parameter with a value that exploits the SQL injection vulnerability, such as one that appends additional SQL commands to the original query. This can be done using a tool like Postman or through custom scripts that interact with the WordPress REST API.

Remediation

Users are advised to update the WP Project Manager plugin to version 2.6.27 or later, where this vulnerability has been patched.
