Simple Download Monitor WordPress Plugin Time-Based SQL Injection Vulnerability

Vulnerability

A time-based SQL injection vulnerability has been identified in the Simple Download Monitor plugin for WordPress, affecting all versions through 3.9.33. The vulnerability arises from inadequate escaping of user-supplied data in the order parameter, allowing authenticated attackers with Contributor-level access or higher to inject additional SQL queries. This exploitation could lead to the extraction of sensitive information from the database.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for time-based SQL injection, where an attacker can manipulate SQL queries to extract data from the database. In this case, the vulnerability could be used to access sensitive information logged by the plugin, such as download records and associated metadata.

Reproduction

To reproduce this vulnerability, an authenticated user with Contributor-level access or higher can export download logs using the WordPress admin interface. The 'order' parameter in the export request can be manipulated to inject malicious SQL, exploiting the vulnerability.

Remediation

Users are advised to update the Simple Download Monitor plugin to version 3.9.34 or later.
