Graphina Elementor Charts and Graphs Stored Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability

Vulnerability

A stored cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in the Graphina - Elementor Charts and Graphs plugin for WordPress, affecting versions through 3.1.3. The vulnerability arises from inadequate input sanitization and output escaping on user-supplied attributes, including chart categories, titles, and tooltip settings. This flaw allows authenticated attackers with contributor-level access or higher to inject arbitrary web scripts into pages, which are executed when users access the affected pages.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for stored cross-site scripting, where injected scripts are executed in the context of the user viewing the page.

Reproduction

To reproduce this vulnerability, an authenticated user with contributor-level access or higher can inject scripts through the chart widget parameters that are not properly sanitized or escaped. This can be done by adding a script payload into fields such as chart titles or categories. Once the chart is saved and the page is accessed, the injected script will execute.

Remediation

Users are advised to update the Graphina - Elementor Charts and Graphs plugin to version 3.1.4 or later.
