atjiu pybbs Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability in User List Management

Vulnerability

A reflected cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in atjiu pybbs versions up to 6.0.0. The issue arises in the admin user management interface, specifically within the user list section. The vulnerability is triggered by manipulating the 'username' parameter, which is not properly sanitized before being displayed. This flaw allows remote attackers to execute scripts in the context of the user's session, potentially targeting administrative users.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for reflected cross-site scripting, where an attacker can inject malicious scripts that are executed in the context of the victim's browser.

Reproduction

To reproduce this vulnerability, send a request to the '/admin/user/list' endpoint with a crafted 'username' parameter that includes JavaScript payloads, such as an image tag with an 'onerror' event. This will trigger the cross-site scripting vulnerability by executing the injected script in the user's browser.

Remediation

Users are advised to update to the patched version of atjiu pybbs, which is available on the project's GitHub repository.
