PowerPack Elementor Addons WordPress Plugin Stored Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability
Vulnerability
A stored cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in the PowerPack Elementor Addons (Free Widgets, Extensions and Templates) plugin for WordPress. This issue affects all versions prior to and including 2.9.4. The vulnerability arises from inadequate input sanitization and output escaping, allowing authenticated attackers with Contributor-level access or higher to inject arbitrary web scripts. These scripts are executed when a user accesses the compromised page.
Impact
Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for stored cross-site scripting, where injected scripts are executed in the context of the user viewing the page.
Reproduction
To reproduce this vulnerability, an authenticated user with Contributor-level access or higher can inject scripts via the 'cursor_url' parameter. This can be done by accessing the custom cursor settings within the PowerPack Elementor Addons plugin and adding a script payload. Once the cursor setting is saved, the injected script will execute when the cursor is used on the front end of the site.
Remediation
Users are advised to update the PowerPack Elementor Addons plugin to version 2.9.5 or later, where this vulnerability has been addressed.
