Code-Projects Exam Form Submission SQL Injection Vulnerability

Vulnerability

A critical SQL injection vulnerability has been identified in the Code-Projects Exam Form Submission application, version 1.0. The issue resides in the '/user/dashboard.php' file, where the 'MULTIPART phone' parameter is manipulated, allowing attackers to inject malicious SQL queries. This vulnerability can be exploited remotely, without any authentication, leading to unauthorized database access, data modification or deletion, and exposure of sensitive information.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for SQL injection, enabling attackers to manipulate database queries. This could result in unauthorized data access, data leakage, data modification or deletion, and potentially allow attackers to gain control over the application or its underlying system.

Reproduction

To reproduce this vulnerability, send a POST request to '/user/dashboard.php' with the 'MULTIPART phone' parameter. Inject a payload that exploits time-based blind SQL injection, such as one that uses the SQL 'SLEEP' function to delay the response. This demonstrates the ability to execute arbitrary SQL commands, confirming the SQL injection vulnerability.

Remediation

It is recommended to use prepared statements and parameter binding to prevent SQL injection. Additionally, validate and filter user input to ensure it meets expected formats. Minimizing database user permissions and conducting regular security audits can further enhance application security.
