Target Video Easy Publish Stored Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability

Vulnerability

A stored cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in the Target Video Easy Publish plugin for WordPress, affecting all versions through 3.8.8. The issue arises from inadequate input sanitization and output escaping, allowing authenticated attackers with Contributor-level access or higher to inject arbitrary web scripts via the 'placeholder_img' parameter. These injected scripts are executed when users access the affected pages.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for stored cross-site scripting, where injected scripts are executed in the context of the user viewing the page.

Reproduction

To reproduce this vulnerability, an authenticated user with Contributor-level access or higher can inject scripts by adding or editing a post and including a payload in the 'placeholder_img' parameter. Once the post is saved, the injected script will execute when the post is viewed.

Remediation

Users are advised to update the Target Video Easy Publish plugin to version 3.8.9 or later.
