itsourcecode Insurance Management System SQL Injection Vulnerability in insertAgent.php
Vulnerability
A critical SQL injection vulnerability has been identified in the itsourcecode Insurance Management System, version 1.0 and prior. The issue resides in the insertAgent.php file, where the agent_id parameter is manipulated to inject malicious SQL queries. This vulnerability can be exploited remotely, but requires authentication with valid credentials. The lack of proper input validation allows attackers to interfere with SQL commands, potentially leading to unauthorized database access and manipulation.
Impact
Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for SQL injection, where attackers can execute arbitrary SQL commands. This could result in unauthorized data access, data manipulation, and in some cases, executing commands on the server with the database user's privileges.
Reproduction
To reproduce this vulnerability, log into the application with valid credentials. Once authenticated, send a POST request to the insertAgent.php file with the agent_id parameter. Inject a malicious SQL payload into the agent_id parameter while including the necessary session cookie (PHPSESSID) to maintain the authenticated session.
Remediation
It is recommended to use prepared statements and parameter binding to prevent SQL injection. Additionally, input validation and filtering should be implemented to ensure user input conforms to expected formats. Minimizing database user permissions and conducting regular security audits can also help mitigate such vulnerabilities.
