Portfolio for Elementor and Image Gallery PowerFolio Stored Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability

A stored cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in the Portfolio for Elementor & Image Gallery | PowerFolio plugin for WordPress, affecting all versions through 3.2.0. The vulnerability arises from inadequate input sanitization and output escaping in the Custom JS Attributes of the plugin's widgets. This flaw allows authenticated attackers with Contributor-level access or higher to inject arbitrary web scripts into pages, which are executed when users access the affected pages.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for stored cross-site scripting, where injected scripts are executed in the context of the user viewing the page.

Reproduction

To reproduce this vulnerability, an authenticated user with Contributor-level access or higher can add a widget from the Portfolio for Elementor & Image Gallery | PowerFolio plugin. In the widget settings, the user can inject JavaScript code into the Custom JS field. Once the widget is saved and the page is viewed, the injected script will execute, demonstrating the cross-site scripting vulnerability.

Remediation

Users are advised to update the Portfolio for Elementor & Image Gallery | PowerFolio plugin to version 3.2.1 or a newer patched version.
