ThemeREX Addons Stored Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability via SVG File Uploads

Vulnerability

A stored cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in the ThemeREX Addons plugin for WordPress, affecting all versions through 2.35.1.1. This vulnerability arises from inadequate input sanitization and output escaping, allowing authenticated attackers with Contributor-level access and above to upload remote SVG files that inject arbitrary web scripts. The issue occurs because the plugin's SVG rendering process does not validate the 'svg' parameter or the content of the SVG before displaying it, enabling the execution of injected scripts when users access the SVG file.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for stored cross-site scripting, where injected scripts are executed in the context of the user viewing the SVG file.

Remediation

Users are advised to update the ThemeREX Addons plugin to version 2.35.2.2 or a newer patched version.
