Code-Projects Car Rental System SQL Injection Vulnerability in Add Cars Admin File
Vulnerability
A critical SQL injection vulnerability has been identified in version 1.0 of the Code-Projects Car Rental System. The issue resides in the admin add_cars.php file, where the car_name parameter is manipulated, allowing attackers to inject malicious SQL queries. This vulnerability can be exploited remotely, without any authentication, potentially leading to unauthorized database access, data modification or deletion, and exposure of sensitive information.
Impact
Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for SQL injection, enabling attackers to interfere with the application's database queries. This could lead to unauthorized data access, data manipulation, and in some cases, executing administrative operations on the database.
Reproduction
To reproduce this vulnerability, send a POST request to the /admin/add_cars.php endpoint with the car_name parameter. Inject a payload that exploits the SQL injection vulnerability, such as one that uses a time-based blind SQL injection technique, like causing the database to sleep for a few seconds. This confirms the vulnerability by demonstrating that the injection was successful and that the application is susceptible to SQL injection attacks.
Remediation
It is recommended to use prepared statements and parameter binding to prevent SQL injection vulnerabilities. Additionally, input validation and filtering should be implemented to ensure that user input conforms to expected formats. Minimizing database user permissions and conducting regular security audits can also help enhance the application's security.
