Linux Kernel IP22 Zilog Driver Platform Device Vulnerability

Vulnerability

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's handling of the IP22 Zilog serial driver has been addressed. The issue arose because, after a certain commit, serial drivers were required to specify a device in the 'uart_port.dev' field. Failure to do so resulted in a system error. The IP22 Zilog driver has been modified to be a platform driver, allowing it to properly manage the serial device and comply with the new requirements.

Impact

This vulnerability could lead to a system error, causing a disruption in the normal operation of the serial driver.

Remediation

The vulnerability has been fixed in the Linux kernel by updating the IP22 Zilog driver to use a platform device for probing. The patched driver is available in the Linux kernel stable tree.
