A stored cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in the WordPress Contest Gallery plugin, specifically in versions through 26.0.8. The issue arises from inadequate input sanitization and output escaping, allowing authenticated attackers with Author-level access or higher to inject arbitrary web scripts. These scripts are executed when a user accesses the affected page. The vulnerability is linked to the 'upload[1][title]' parameter.
Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for stored cross-site scripting, where injected scripts are executed in the context of the user viewing the page.
To reproduce this vulnerability, an authenticated user with Author-level access or higher can upload a file through the contest gallery upload form. During the upload process, the 'upload[1][title]' parameter can be manipulated to include malicious scripts. Once the file is uploaded, the injected script will execute whenever the page is accessed.
Users are advised to update the WordPress Contest Gallery plugin to version 26.0.9 or later.
