Code-Projects Inventory Management System SQL Injection Vulnerability in editCategories.php

Vulnerability

A critical SQL injection vulnerability has been identified in the Code-Projects Inventory Management System version 1.0. The issue resides in the file /php_action/editCategories.php, where the 'editCategoriesName' parameter is manipulated, allowing attackers to inject malicious SQL queries. This vulnerability can be exploited remotely, without any authentication.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows attackers to inject malicious SQL queries, potentially leading to unauthorized database access, data modification or deletion, and access to sensitive information.

Reproduction

The vulnerability can be reproduced by sending a POST request to the 'editCategories.php' file with the 'editCategoriesName' parameter. The request should include a payload that exploits the SQL injection vulnerability, such as one that uses a time-based blind SQL injection technique, like adding a SQL injection payload that causes a delay in the response, indicating successful exploitation.

Remediation

It is recommended to use prepared statements and parameter binding to prevent SQL injection, validate and filter user input, minimize database user permissions, and conduct regular security audits.
