SourceCodester Client Database Management System SQL Injection Vulnerability
Vulnerability
A critical SQL injection vulnerability has been identified in SourceCodester Client Database Management System version 1.0. The issue arises in the file '/user_customer_create_order.php', where the 'user_id' parameter is not properly sanitized or validated, allowing attackers to inject malicious SQL queries. This vulnerability can be exploited remotely without authentication, potentially leading to unauthorized database access, data manipulation, and exposure of sensitive information.
Impact
Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for SQL injection, enabling attackers to manipulate database queries. This could result in unauthorized data access, data modification or deletion, and in some cases, executing administrative operations on the database.
Reproduction
To reproduce this vulnerability, send a POST request to '/cdm/user_customer_create_order.php' with the 'user_id' parameter. Include a payload that exploits the SQL injection, such as a SQL query that could, for example, extract database information. The injection takes advantage of the application's failure to properly validate or sanitize user input before executing SQL commands.
Remediation
It is recommended to use prepared statements and parameter binding to prevent SQL injection. Additionally, input validation and filtering should be implemented to ensure user data conforms to expected formats. Minimizing database user permissions and conducting regular security audits can further enhance the application's security.
