FooGallery WordPress Plugin Stored Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability
Vulnerability
A stored cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in the FooGallery WordPress plugin, specifically in the 'Responsive Photo Gallery, Image Viewer, Justified, Masonry & Carousel' extension. This vulnerability affects all versions of the plugin up to and including 2.4.31. The issue arises from inadequate input sanitization and output escaping, allowing authenticated attackers with Contributor-level access or higher to inject arbitrary scripts into captions. These scripts are executed when a user views the affected gallery.
Impact
Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for stored cross-site scripting, where injected scripts are executed in the context of the user viewing the gallery.
Reproduction
To reproduce this vulnerability, an authenticated user with Contributor-level access or higher can inject scripts through the 'data-caption-title' and 'data-caption-description' attributes. Once injected, these scripts will execute when the gallery is viewed.
Remediation
Users are advised to update the FooGallery WordPress plugin to version 2.4.32 or later, where this vulnerability has been patched.
