WP-Addpub WordPress Plugin SQL Injection Vulnerability

Vulnerability

A SQL injection vulnerability has been identified in the WP-Addpub plugin for WordPress, affecting all versions through 1.2.8. The vulnerability arises from inadequate escaping of user-supplied parameters in the 'wp-addpub' shortcode, allowing authenticated attackers with Contributor-level access or higher to inject additional SQL queries. This exploitation could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive information in the database.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for SQL injection, where an attacker can manipulate SQL queries to extract sensitive data from the database.

Reproduction

To reproduce this vulnerability, an authenticated user with Contributor-level access or higher can use the 'wp-addpub' shortcode, injecting malicious SQL into the 'bannerID', 'zone', or 'filter' parameters. The injected SQL can then be used to extract data from the database, taking advantage of the plugin's SQL query handling.

Remediation

No known patch is available. Users are advised to uninstall the affected plugin and consider a replacement.
