A local file inclusion vulnerability has been identified in the Ovatheme Ireca WordPress theme, affecting versions through 1.8.5. This vulnerability arises from improper control of filenames in include or require statements, allowing PHP remote file inclusion that could be exploited for local file inclusion instead.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability could allow a malicious actor to include local files from the target website and display their output. This could potentially lead to a complete database takeover, depending on the configuration, as files containing credentials, such as database passwords, could be accessed.

Remediation

Users are advised to update to version 1.8.6 or later. Patchstack has also issued a virtual patch to block attacks until the update is applied.
