WeGIA Reflected Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability in editar_permissoes.php Endpoint

Vulnerability

A reflected cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in the WeGIA application, specifically in the editar_permissoes.php endpoint, prior to version 3.4.4. This vulnerability allows attackers to inject malicious scripts into the msg_c parameter. The application does not properly validate or sanitize user inputs, enabling the injection of harmful payloads that are reflected back to the user's browser and executed in the context of the victim.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for reflected cross-site scripting, where injected scripts are executed in the context of the user's browser. This can lead to various consequences, such as stealing cookies, manipulating account information, executing malicious code on the user's device, or causing reputational damage to organizations by defacing websites or spreading false information.

Reproduction

To reproduce this vulnerability, send a GET request to the WeGIA application’s editar_permissoes.php endpoint with a crafted msg_c parameter that includes a script payload. The application’s failure to sanitize this input will result in the script being executed in the user’s browser.

Remediation

Users can update to WeGIA version 3.4.4 or later, where this vulnerability has been fixed.
