SourceCodester Client Database Management System SQL Injection Vulnerability
Vulnerability
A critical SQL injection vulnerability has been identified in SourceCodester Client Database Management System version 1.0. The issue resides in the file '/cdm/superadmin_update_profile.php', where the 'nickname' parameter is manipulated to inject malicious SQL code. This vulnerability allows attackers to interfere with SQL queries, potentially leading to unauthorized database access, data manipulation, and exposure of sensitive information. Notably, this vulnerability can be exploited remotely without requiring authentication.
Impact
Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for SQL injection, enabling attackers to manipulate database queries. This could result in unauthorized data access, data modification or deletion, and in some cases, executing administrative operations on the database.
Reproduction
To reproduce this vulnerability, send a POST request to '/cdm/superadmin_update_profile.php' with an injected SQL payload in the 'nickname' parameter. The injection can be crafted to exploit the application's SQL query handling, such as by using SQL injection techniques to extract database information or manipulate database records.
Remediation
It is recommended to use prepared statements and parameter binding to prevent SQL injection. Additionally, input validation and filtering should be implemented to ensure user input conforms to expected formats. Minimizing database user permissions and conducting regular security audits can also help mitigate such vulnerabilities.
