WP Plugin Info Card Stored Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability

Vulnerability

A stored cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in the WP Plugin Info Card for WordPress, affecting all versions through 5.3.1. The issue arises from inadequate input sanitization and output escaping, allowing authenticated attackers with Contributor-level access or higher to inject arbitrary web scripts. These scripts are executed when a user accesses the compromised page. This vulnerability is a result of an incomplete patch for a previous security issue.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for stored cross-site scripting, where injected scripts are executed in the context of the user viewing the page.

Reproduction

To reproduce this vulnerability, an authenticated user with Contributor-level access or higher can inject scripts via the 'containerid' parameter. The injection can be done through a shortcode or block that utilizes this parameter. Once the script is injected, it will be executed whenever the page is accessed by a user.

Remediation

Users are advised to update the WP Plugin Info Card to version 5.4.0 or later, where this vulnerability has been patched.
