WP Online Users Stats SQL Injection Vulnerability
Vulnerability
A time-based SQL injection vulnerability has been identified in the WP Online Users Stats plugin for WordPress, affecting all versions through 1.0.0. The vulnerability arises from inadequate escaping of user-supplied data in the 'table_name' parameter and a lack of proper preparation in the SQL query. This flaw allows authenticated attackers with Editor-level access or higher to inject additional SQL commands into existing queries, potentially leading to the extraction of sensitive database information.
Impact
Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for time-based SQL injection, where an attacker can manipulate SQL queries to extract sensitive information from the database.
Reproduction
To reproduce this vulnerability, an authenticated user with Editor-level access or higher can send a request to the 'wp_online_users_stats' plugin's AJAX endpoint, 'hk_dataset_results'. The 'table_name' parameter can be crafted to include malicious SQL payloads that exploit the vulnerability by appending additional SQL commands to the original query. This injection can be used to extract sensitive data from the database, taking advantage of the time-based nature of the injection to bypass certain security measures.
Remediation
No known patch is available for this vulnerability. Users are advised to review the vulnerability details and consider uninstalling the affected plugin.
