QNAP QuTS Hero Buffer Overflow Vulnerability Allowing Memory Modification or Process Crashes

Vulnerability

A buffer overflow vulnerability exists in multiple QNAP QuTS hero operating system versions. When a remote attacker with a user account exploits this vulnerability, they can alter memory or cause processes to crash. This issue has been addressed in QuTS hero h5.3.2.3354 build 20251225 and later.

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for memory modification or process crashes on the affected system.

Remediation

Users can update to QuTS hero h5.3.2.3354 build 20251225 or later. To update, log in as an administrator, go to the Control Panel, then System, and select Firmware Update. Under Live Update, click Check for Update. The latest update will be downloaded and installed automatically. Alternatively, the update can be downloaded from the QNAP Download Center.
